I just returned from a writer’s retreat not too long ago. One of the speakers was discussing various aspects of writing.

The last couple of months have been full of travel, and I’m happy to say that I’m finally back for an extended period. I won’t be traveling for a few months, and I’m really looking forward to this time when I can hopefully get some major work done

We’ve often heard it said that comparison is the thief of joy. I’m not sure that’s entirely true because there’s nothing wrong with comparison in and of itself. When it becomes jealousy or envy, then there’s definitely something wrong with it, but comparison can be a very helpful tool.

In early February, I attended a conference in Ireland called the Author Sustainability Conference (ASC). It was an incredible experience. I had the privilege of speaking at the conference and I thought it would be interesting to share some of what I discussed at the conference.

Today, we’re here to talk about things that eat your attention and how vital it is for life in general, but specifically for pursuing a creative writing career, that you eliminate all of them ruthlessly.

Have you ever heard the phrase “character-driven”? Have you ever wondered what it means? I must admit, the first time I heard the phrase, I had no idea. I kept hearing the word bandied about at conferences, in conversations with other writers, and it’s especially a favorite of agents and people in publishing, but what does “character-driven” even mean?

One of the questions I am often asked is, “Do you read?” The answer to that is complicated. I recently made a video discussing whether or not listening to audiobooks is considered reading, and I concluded that I don’t believe it is.

Someone recently asked me how to overcome the fear of sharing content. As an author, sharing content is a significant part of my overall strategy. If you’ve spent any time here, you’ll know that I advocate for releasing content into the world to receive feedback and improve.

It appears this is the week of announcements, as I have another one to share with you. For the past three years, I’ve been working on a project. It began smoothly, but I quickly realized I was out of my depth. Consequently, I started recruiting people to help me achieve my goal.

Today, we have an advertisement! Well, not really, but sort of. I wanted to let you know about a really cool thing that we’ve been doing here on YouTube. I’ve been running writing sprints, six of them each day, Monday through Friday, or at least as many days during the week as I can manage.
